Inter-MURals
6th-8th Grade Intersession Project
Timeline: 2 weeks; full day schedule 9:00-3:30pm
Collaboration: Art and Multimedia
Project Description:
Students contemplated what makes a community and brainstormed certain attributes that are essential to building a strong community of learners for a school-wide mural project.
They formed teams and worked together to produce 5 high-quality original mural designs based on a theme that was voted on by the class. Students selected which theme spoke most to them and discovered a space in the school building that best represented the theme. They also drafted many ideas for what images, colors, and symbols best represented the chosen theme and created designs for critique.
A group of nearly 40 students produced murals for our school by the end of the two week course. Click the photo to see more student work and reflection.

The Number Devil-Tesselation Book Cover Designs
6th Grade
Timeline: 3 weeks
Collaboration: Math/Science and Humanities
Project Description: As an introductory project to learn design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, students created their own tessellations based on a character or setting from their Number Devil Inspired short stories. The tessellations were a combination of hand-drawn and scanned in computer-manipulated art using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. These designs became the front covers of their printed individual books.
